Football Writers’ Association Student Football Writer of the Year Awards
As part of its long-term commitment to the next generation of football writers, this year the FWA is initiating a pair of exciting new awards. Named after two much missed greats of the trade, the Vikki Orvice Award for the Female Student Football Writer of the Year and Hugh McIlvanney Award for the Male Student Football Writer of the Year are open to anyone who is currently engaged in full time education.
Hugh McIlvanney memorial serviceA memorial service for Hugh McIlvanney will be held at St Bride’s Church, Fleet Street, London EC4 at 11.30am on Thursday 16 May.
St Bride's is described as 'the spiritual home of the media' so it is a fitting venue for friends, family and former colleagues to remember Hugh, who passed away earlier this year after a long fight with cancer.
Hugh McIlvanney, OBEWe at the FWA are sad to report the passing of Hugh McIlvanney, one of the greatest sportswriters of the past fifty years and a much-loved colleague.
Hughie passed away on Thursday, aged 84, after a battle with cancer, but he left behind a legacy of prize-winning sportswriting and a reputation as one of the true greats.
