Bunny Shaw praises team-mates as she wins Women’s Footballer of the Year award

Manchester City forward gracious as she was honoured with the FWA award

Bunny Shaw says she has a debt of gratitude to her Manchester City team-mates and manager Gareth Taylor as she collected her award as the FWA’s Women’s Footballer of the Year.

The 27-year-old City and Jamaica striker spoke as she was honoured at the FWA awards dinner in London on May 16, attending on crutches because of a combination of knee and foot injuries.

“I’m feeling great and I’m happy to be recognised,” she said as she collected her trophy from FWA Chair John Cross.

“It’s been a good season so far other than the cast on my foot! It has been a good season but I always say it is the team that makes me look good. I am playing in a team with world class players. Gareth Taylor has definitely helped me to improve my game and as he was a striker, that helps too. We have a good relationship.”

“I just try to do the best that I can and work hard for the team at the top of the pitch. My national teammates, coaches, friends, family, they all support me ever since I came to England
“I have tried to do the best that I can to put Jamaica out there. Obviously, in football, we’re known for track and field. So now I’m here, I’m trying to be a trailblazer for my country.”
