Football Book of the Year – Long list revealed

The Sunday Times Sports Book of the Year awards have revealed the Long List of 14 titles in the Football Book of the Year section, as chosen by the FWA’s book committee, chaired by Philippe Auclaire. Our congratulations go to all the successful authors.

The 14 titles are:

·      From Football To Soccer – The early history of the beautiful game in the USA (Brian D. Bunk/University of Illinois Press)

·      FA Cup 150 (Phil Annetts/FACupFactfile, self-published)

·      Barça – The inside story of the world’s greatest football club (Simon Kuper/Short Books)

·      The Dream Factory – inside the make-or-break world of footballing academies (Ryan Baldi/Polaris)

·      The Immortals (Arrigo Sacchi/Backpage)

·      West Midlands Turf Wars (Steve Tongue/Pitch)

·      Thou Shalt Not Pass – The Anatomy of Football’s Centre-half (Leo Moynihan/Bloomsbury)

·      The Miracle 04 – The football team that shocked the world (Vasilis Sambrakos/Pitch)

·      Bill Edgar’s Quirky Football Quiz Book (Bill Edgar/Robinson)

·      George Best – True Genius (Wayne Barton/Reach Sport) 

·      Maradona – The Boy, the rebel, the God (Guillem Balague/Weidenfeld & Nicholson)

·      My 70 Years Of Spurs – A long walk down White Hart Lane (Norman Giller/Pitch)

·      The Greatest Show On Earth – the inside story of the 1970 World Cup (Andrew Downie/Arena)

·      This Is How It Feels – An English football miracle (Mike Keegan/Reach Sport) 

The judges will announce a short list of six titles in early May, with the winners revealed at the prize-giving ceremony at The Oval on May 26.
